We'll go looking to find splashing puddles but can never find good ones on our street. So we usually end up at the park and he splashes in the stream.
Another reason that tarts are perfect is because they are beautiful but can also be pretty easy to throw together. You can make your own crust (try this recipe!) but you can also use store bought crust or puff pastry in a pinch.
We make vegetable and ricotta tarts and the one on the right, below, is a caramelized onion and bacon tart, adapted from this recipe. Our apple frangipane tart is also a standby at our house. (btw - Trader Joes carries affordable bags of almond meal so making frangipane is quite easy.)
